Allegory Through the Use of Art

The Blue Moon and the Warrior

This ink drawing depicts a journey of sorts whose characters must travel through different life patterns and trails.  There are many winding roads, corridors of tiled floors,  narrow bridges,
and trees branches that allow for movement.
The blue moon is a strong female symbol in many mythologies.
I used blue indian ink to provide depth and contrast.
The profiles of my face are set against the blue moon and are facing West.
In art therapy, the counsellor would say that I am facing the past
and not the future - to do that, my face should have been put on the right side of the page facing East.
Carl Jung would have agreed to this analysis and he would have probably said
that by looking at this drawing, my Anima was very present, strong and powerful.
The face of the androgynous warrior who stares back at the viewer is trying to say
- I am here in the present, not in the past nor the future.  I am here to help.
To come to terms with the present, I must understand the past,
the way the earth turns, the tides shifts, the squares and circles
that define how we move forward in our personal journeys sometimes stops.
The shadow warrior is there not to harm but to guide.
The flower in the centre of the page is standing strong and shows great promise.
There are lots of love that make those petals strong.

Wikipedia has the following for a definition on Allegory:
it is a literary device in which characters or events in a literary, visual, or musical art form
represent or symbolize ideas and concepts.
